So, I was napping during the West Virgina/Duke game. Yes, I was tired and sleepy. Forgive, me I did not watch the game. I had West VA winning it all, but everybody’s brackets were ugly this year, so #dontjudgeme!
So, thank God for Twitter. I am seeing all these posts from my Twitter Dawlings about how Da’Sean Butler suffered a knee injury and was out for the rest of the game. Then…there was a reference to “Huggie Bear.” WTH?! Who is that?! Twitter was all the rage about how Bob Huggins (Huggie Bear is his nickname; found that out later), West VA’s head coach consoled Butler after his injury.
Ok, so I am waiting for Friday’s episode of The Young & the Restless to go off on SOAP Net, so that I can make that switcheroo to my good ol’ ESPN. Yes, I watch a soap opera, and I have watched this one since I was 3. Again, #dontjudgeme.
Anywho, so the highlights of the game are up. WHOA! I was not ready, y’all. Butler goes down; people are coming to his aid, as well as Coach Huggins. As Butler is grimacing in pain (you could tell he needed to be comforted), but I don’t think anyone was ready for this display of comfort. Peep the clip:
Now that this clip’s marinated in your mind, am I the only one who was channeling a little bit of ‘Where they do that at (ala Weezy)?!’ I mean, Huggie Bear, was all up on the kid! Can he get some space?! So, all the analysts are praising Huggie Bear for his consoling and his softer side. I guess?! But I have NEVER seen a coach – biddy, high school, college, or pro – all up on his player like that. He was stroking his face, hugging him, of course. If a coach even comes out on the court, they usually just stand or stoop down over them. NEVER the helicopter hovering action Huggie Bear was doing. Maybe Huggie Bear is just affectionate. He is definitely comfortable, because most coaches don’t show emotion like that toward their players.
Maybe that’s just his style, I guess. It was just a little weird.
SPEAK ON IT =)
